Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has announced this year’s winner of the annual school competition to design his official Christmas Card.

The winner was chosen from among hundreds of different entries from primary schools across the Western Isles. Stornoway Primary School pupil Jack MacArthur’s depiction of the whalebone arch in Bragar was the eventual winner, and Jack was presented with an array of Scottish Parliament-themed prizes on Monday morning.

The winning entry will be sent out to over a thousand people and organisations locally and nationally.

Congratulating Jack while visiting Stornoway Primary School to present the prizes, Alasdair Allan MSP said:

“I received hundreds of entries from primary school pupils across the length of the Western Isles and I would like to thank all of the children who submitted Christmas card designs. As always, it was a tough task to narrow down the field due to the high quality of the artwork but I eventually settled on Jack’s festive depiction of a snowman in front of the whalebone arch on the west side of the Isle of Lewis.

“I would like to thank Creagorry Motors, Harris Tweed Hebrides, Luskentyre Harris Tween Company, Ken MacDonald & Co and Alex J Martin Builders for their generous contributions towards this year’s competition and cards.

“I want to wish all of my constituents a very happy and peaceful Christmas with their families.”
