Alasdair Allan, MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, has announced the winner of his annual Christmas card competition.
Since he was first elected in 2007, Alasdair Allan has invited school pupils across the Western Isles to submit their designs each year, with the winning design featured on the MSP’s Christmas cards. The cards are sent to over 2500 individuals and organisations both in the constituency and across the country.
This year’s winner was P7 pupil Rosa O’ Halloran, from Sgoil an Rubha, whose design depicts a Christmas tree in Lews Castle grounds. The runner-up this year was Aimee MacKinnon from Castlebay School.
Last week, the islands’ MSP presented a prize to Rosa, and the Christmas cards will soon be distributed featuring the winning artwork.
Allan commended this year’s winning design, saying:
“There were a huge number of fantastic entries this year, and it was very difficult to choose a winner. That being said, Rosa’s design really stood out in terms of its overall composition and accurate depiction of one of our islands’ famous landmarks.
“Many thanks to all the pupils who took part in this year’s competition, and also to this year’s sponsors, who included Essence of Harris, Ken MacDonald Lawyers and Estate Agents and Greenall Odell Studio, for their generous donations towards the cost of printing the cards.
“I would like to wish each of my constituents a restful and merry Christmas with their loved ones. Nollaig Chridheil dhuibh uile!”
