Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan MSP is encouraging young musicians across Scotland to apply for funding from the Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust.

The Trust was established in memory of Eilidh MacLeod, the Barra teenager who was a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack.

Musicians of all genres and disciplines have until midnight on 30th April 2024 to bid to the Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust for financial support. The small grants charity targets its help to groups and individuals to grow and develop their music tuition capacity and ensure lessons continue to be available to all.

Applications for a maximum of £1500 can be made via the Eilidh's Trust website.

Alasdair Allan commented:

“The charity’s work is an appropriate tribute to Eilidh MacLeod, herself a talented and enthusiastic member of her secondary school’s pipe band.

“Since 2019, Eilidh’s Trust has provided small grant funding directly to young people across Scotland, including a dozen contributions to individuals and groups in the Western Isles.

“I would encourage young musicians to take advantage of this opportunity for support.”

The Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust was established in 2018 with two main ambitions:

  • To establish, manage and maintain the permanent memorial to Eilidh and a garden of remembrance which will be located on the Isle of Barra
  • To enable other young people and children to continue Eilidh’s musical journey by providing support to advance their music education (primarily but not exclusively in rural areas)

The trust is a registered charity (1180467) and undertakes various fundraising and merchandising activities to support its aims.
