Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has written to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) regarding the current waiting times for Motorcycle Theory Tests in the Western Isles.

Motorcycle Test applicants have to complete a Compulsory Basic Training course and the Motorcycle Theory Test before they can take the full test. The DVSA normally have Motorcycle Theory Tests available once a month but the current waiting time has grown to eight and a half weeks in the Western Isles.

Alasdair Allan, who has been contacted by a number of constituents about the issue, commented:

“Eight and a half weeks is an unacceptable length of time for people to have to wait to arrange their theory test and it does appear that the DVSA are letting down applicants in the Western Isles.

“The facilities are available and there is enough demand locally so instructors and applicants are understandably perplexed at the long waiting times.

“The DVSA need to ensure that the islands are being treated on an equitable basis with the rest of this country, and to that end I hope the waiting time issue is swiftly resolved.”
