Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has welcomed the news that a new £4 million self-build housing loan fund is to be rolled out nationwide, following a successful pilot in the Highlands. This will mean that the scheme is to open in the Western Isles for the first time.

In addition, a Challenge Fund has been opened to support pilot projects that will help to expand the custom and self-build sector.

Alasdair Allan MSP commented:

“I have received many enquiries on the pilot project currently being run in the Highlands. It’s clear this scheme will attract a great deal of interest locally and it is great news it will now be available from Autumn of next year.

“The fund should help to address the difficulties many households have in obtaining mortgages for self-build housing and I hope that families across the Isles will be able to benefit when it opens next year.
