Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan earlier today met with representatives from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to discuss the impact of the subsea cable between the Isle of Lewis and Skye breaking.

The local MSP raised the plight of the island charities and organisations which have been impacted by the loss of grant funding from community windfarms which have had to stop generating since the cable break.

Alasdair Allan MSP commented:

“This was a useful opportunity to raise the predicament of those organisations who rely on funding from community renewables projects and whose future was looking uncertain because of the cable break.

“There is a significant amount of money distributed to local causes in the Western Isles from community generators, and with the lengthy timescale to replace the cable we do need to find ways of ensuring this does not lead to organisations closing their doors.”
