Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has tabled a written question in the Scottish Parliament asking the Scottish Government what is being done to ensure that residents of Uist and Barra have access to vaccinations for COVID-19.

This comes as the rollout of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to some Scottish islands has been delayed due to regulatory issues associated with transportation of the vaccine.

Alasdair Allan commented:

“Over the past few days, I have been made aware of an issue preventing the vaccine being deployed to areas like Uist and Barra.

“My understanding is that this is a regulatory issue and that urgent clarity is being sought from the vaccine manufacturer and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. I have spoken to the Public Health Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health to press for an urgent solution.

“We need to make sure that everyone in Scotland who is eligible for the vaccine is able to get access to it and people in Uist and Barra cannot be left behind.”
