WESTERN ISLES SET TO BENEFIT FROM £43 MILLION INVESTMENT OVER 5 YEARS

Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has hailed as “transformative” confirmation from the Scottish Government that the Western Isles will benefit from more than £43.3 million in grant funding for affordable housing.

Earlier today, Housing Secretary Shona Robison MSP confirmed the resources available to local authorities to assist in planning and delivery of affordable homes over the next five years.

Alasdair Allan MSP commented:

“Housing is a key issue in the Western Isles, so I am delighted to see the islands allocated more than £43 million for affordable housing. This is by far the highest per capita funding for any council area in Scotland and should see the delivery of hundreds of new homes across the islands.

“While substantial progress has been made over the last five years, I would be keen to see much more development outside of Stornoway. There are communities throughout the islands which are exceptionally fragile. More affordable housing in these areas could make the difference in keeping them viable as communities where people can work, live and raise families.”
